Chris & Allison's Adventure
Kyoto Monkey Mountain

Arashiyama, November 27th, 2001

The highlight of our second day-trip to Kyoto was Monkey Mountain in Arashiyama, one of the most famous areas in Japan. We had fun monkey-ing around with the primates and were captivated by watching their behaviour in their natural habitat. It was quite different than watching them at a zoo.

It cost 500 Yen to enter, and we were warned by many signs to not show the monkeys any food, not to touch them, and not to stare at them. At one point, Allison was trying to capture a male and female together with the film camera, and the male screamed and jumped out at her. She was frightened, but hopes that the picture turns out!

Monkey time

The baby monkeys were so small and active! They didn't want to do anything but play! Really CUTE!

We were able to feed the monkeys only in a small hut through a fence. They snacked on peanuts & sweet potatoes.

This baby monkey was only slightly bigger than Chris' hand and had to wait patiently for his turn to get a snack after his larger and more bossy relatives!
