Along with our stop on Monkey Mountain, we toured around the section of Kyoto famous for it's fall foliage, many old temples and river boat rides. We took it all in!

Along our river journey we passed many other boats. This one was a large party boat and the passengers were all young school students in their uniforms. As we passed by, many of them gave us the "peace" sign with their fingers and said "hello"... one young man shouted "have a nice trip!" They were obviously eager to practice their English!
As well as a boat ride up the river, we also took an old steam engine train ride that followed the river path. The train was actually called the "Romantic Train", and that's exactly how we can sum-up our day in Arashiyama... romantic! We will never forget it! |

This was the beginning of our river tour. The driver pushes the boat along the river with a long bamboo pole. |

In the background of this photo you can see the style of boat we were riding in. When we entered at the bow of the boat we had to take our shoes off. There were no seats, we sat right on the floor of the boat and were given a blanket to help us keep warm. This was our dinner in Arashiyama! It was so good! First we looked outside at the plastic models and we memorized the Kanji Japanese writing, then we went inside and pointed to the item on the menu! (Of course, Chris forgot what his Kanji looked like, so he had to bring the nice waitress outside to point at the picture!) |
